Thinking Out of the Box for your Conference Venue

30.01.17

When planning a large company meeting or conference, venue searching can be a long drawn out process with endless options to choose from. Locations vary dramatically, but you may generally find that the interiors of the conference spaces don't boast so much diversity and often may not engage with your delegates.

This can present a problem for the organiser. While some conferences might simply require a large indoor space and a microphone, you may well need your conference to have something exciting and unique about it besides its content, whether that be to attract as many external attendees as possible or to simply maximise the engagement and motivation of delegates. This is where our venue partners, Thames Luxury Charters, can help.

Boats on the Thames have always been a popular option for all types of events, from weddings to corporate summer parties, to anniversary parties, even to Royal Jubilee pageants! The River has not, however, always been a favourite location for functional corporate events such as conferences and meetings.

This is understandable! A boat surely can't have the facilities or space required to accommodate these type of events, and you cannot be swaying from side to side all day. However, TLC has created a range of ways you and your delegates can enjoy a truly unique London experience as well as getting the best out of your conference on the Thames.

The PS Dixie Queen is the largest cruising event boat in London. Moored at Butler's Wharf Pier, the stunning replica paddle steamer boasts unrivalled views of Tower Bridge and the City of London skyline. With full AV capabilities and flooded with natural light from all directions, her large, spacious upper deck is able to accommodate up to 220 guests (theatre style) with a sizeable stage for a panel and speakers. Due to the Dixie's size, she is also incredibly stable when moored alongside the pier, so guests will not be interrupted by the rising and falling of the tide or any passing boats.

So TLC has the space, but the choices available for a lunch, dinner or post-conference drinks reception are where the wow factor lies. You can choose to stay aboard the Dixie Queen, enjoying a seated lunch or dinner (created and presented by Dish) on the elegant lower deck.

However if you want to give your delegates an even more memorable conference experience, you can follow your afternoon on the Dixie with a cruise through London on one of TLC's smaller boats; the Erasmus, Elizabethan or Edwardian. Here guests can enjoy either a seated meal or network with drinks and canapes, all while taking in London's most iconic riverside sites.
