Hintze Hall Back in Action with Hope the Whale

Most people who live or work in London have a real soft spot for the Natural History Museum. Opened in 1881, this magnificent building (superlatives only go so far in describing its architectural beauty) is home to thousands of historical artefacts of the natural world. It is loved by children and adults alike as a museum and is a must-see attraction of the capital.

 

After the doors close to the public, the NHM comes to life in the form of private and corporate events. With its huge spaces and fascinating history, it has become one of London’s most prestigious venues for large indoor events, from product launch receptions to glamorous dinners.

 

Back in the spring the museum bid farewell to one of its most iconic “residents” – the giant Diplodocus replica affectionately known as Dippy, that stood in Hintze Hall watching over guests as they arrived. Following Dippy’s departure, the hall was closed for the summer to install the new addition to the museum’s spectacular collection,  the preserved skeleton of a female blue whale, this time suspended from the ceiling!

 

Since the space reopened for events a few weeks ago, Dish has already had the pleasure of catering three different events at the NHM!

 

The three events were not only exciting to be a part of simply because of the beauty of the venue, but they also provided variety to showcase what Dish can do at the NHM. One event was a formal three course dinner for over 400 guests in celebration of an awards ceremony, another was a fashion show where we provided canapes and drinks for the 65 guests present, and the third was another formal dinner for 370 guests.

   

Canapes served at the glamorous fashion show included :

- Chicken liver parfait, apple jelly, fennel crisp and sesame cone

- Sundried tomato, tofu, Kalamata olive purée and pesto cone

- Smoked salmon, goat’s cheese, fennel biscuit and dill crème fraiche

 

Meanwhile, at the two dinners the courses included:

- Thai marinated salmon with green papaya salad, rice crisps and lemongrass foam

- Pumpkin and sage ravioloni (vegan) with spinach, pickled shallots, and toasted pumpkin seeds

- Welsh rump of lamb, Potato fondant, spinach, date purée, preserved lemon & Moroccan spiced jus

- Egg shell crème brulee, raspberry shot & coconut pain de genes

- Pina colada cheesecake with coconut rum gel, diced pineapple, coconut sorbet, sugar tuille and pineapple sherbet

The three successful events were a great way for us to get back into the swing of catering at the NHM after the new opening of Hintze Hall. With the new addition of Hope the whale it really is even more spectacular as an event space.
