Dish Dubuts Hygge Event Concept on the Thames
On Thursday 2nd February, Dish had the pleasure of launching our new Hygge menu and event concept aboard the MV Erasmus.
We should probably make sure you know what Hygge actually means. A word of Danish origin which doesn't directly translate into English, hygge (pronounced hue-gah), expresses a type of mood and atmosphere; cosyness, togetherness and conviviality. It's essentially a phrase coined to define making the best out of the long, dark Scandinavian winters by relaxing in an environment illuminated with warm (preferably candle) lighting, indulging in great food and spending time with friends and family. Such an appealing idea is perfect to incorporate into winter events, so both Dish are delighted to introduce our menus which cater to the idea!
Launching the concept at the showcase of Thames Luxury Charters' (TLC) luxurious Erasmus, TLC and Dish extended a warm welcome to over 100 guests from throughout the event planning industries. Guests were greeted by waiting staff dressed in cosy jumpers and braces serving cocktails and Canard Duchene Champagne, Charles VII Smooth Rose as the boarded Erasmus.
Sitting at the lantern lit pier, the Erasmus was bedecked with festoon lighting whilst inside guests could find animated flames on screens, faux-fur blankets, baskets of wooly hats (which they could take as a keepsake) as well as a mirrored photobooth, foosball and air hockey table! The wonderful aroma created by the waffle station on board also added to the relaxed cruising vibe.
Served on wooden planks, guests guests were able to sample a selection from Dish’s new Hygge menu inspired by traditional Scandinavian cuisine and flavours. Dishes served on the night included smoked venison with lingonberry on rye bread, dill cured salmon with beetroot salad and cucumber caviar, cod fricassee with shellfish sauce and the Swedish classic of meatballs with mash potato, gravy and lingonberry jam. Kladdkaka (chocolate cake) and traditional semlor (cardamom buns with almond paste and whipped cream) were among the desserts served. As well as a selection of Danish beers, drinks included the winter elixir: a mix of vodka, syrup, fresh lemon juice, pomegranate juice and soda garnished with a rosemary sprig and lemon wheel.
Dish’s new HYGGE menu includes canapés, soups, open faced sandwiches, Scandinavian cheese fondue and Nordic desserts.
